QRT Expands Semiconductor Reliability Testing to Space Components and Glass Substrates
What happened
QRT said on Nov. 4 that it is expanding its semiconductor reliability testing and comprehensive analysis businesses into space components and glass substrates. In the space sector, the company is targeting the up-screening market: manufacturers of low-Earth-orbit satellite constellations are seeking to reduce costs by using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components instead of specialized space-grade parts, and up-screening involves testing these components in advance to determine whether they can withstand space environments. For glass substrates, demand for failure analysis and process analysis has increased as the technology moves beyond prototyping into mass-production validation; reliability must be verified whenever materials or structures change, which is expected to generate recurring testing orders. In its existing semiconductor business, QRT is seeing growing demand for reliability testing of sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM4), Compute Express Link (CXL) and small outline compression attached memory modules (SOCAMM), and the company expanded its comprehensive analysis capacity by installing a second transmission electron microscope (TEM) in the first half of 2026. In its equipment business, QRT secured an order for radio-frequency (RF) equipment from a European defense company in the first quarter and has continued to win new orders in the second half. KB Securities forecast in a report released the same day that QRT's revenue in the second half of 2026 would rise 27.7% from a year earlier to 46.1 billion won, while operating profit would surge 163.2% to 8 billion won.
