Micron reported record revenue of $23.68B in Q2 FY2026, up 194% YoY, with gross margins soaring to 74.4% due to AI demand and HBM shortages. The company expects continued record performance in Q3 driven by tight supply and price increases for DRAM and NAND. This signals a strong bullish outlook for memory pricing and capacity utilization.
Samsung is allocating over 50% of its Pyeongtaek foundry capacity to in-house HBM4 base die production, driving utilization above 90%. This strategic shift prioritizes internal demand from major customers like NVIDIA and AMD, while also securing an exclusive supply deal with OpenAI for its Titan chip. The move signals a severe supply constraint for external HBM4 buyers.
Samsung Electronics secured exclusive HBM4 supply for AMD's upcoming MI455X AI accelerators, with shipments already underway. The partnership also expands to DDR5 for AMD's Helios platform and includes talks on potential foundry collaboration for future AMD chips. Watch: This exclusive deal strengthens Samsung's position in the premium HBM market and could shift competitive dynamics, but its direct impact on spot prices for general components is not immediate.
Samsung Foundry positions its Tesla AI chip contract as a strategic breakthrough to improve 2nm yields, with financial results expected in 1-2 years. The Tesla AI5/AI6 chips for FSD and Optimus robots are slated for production at Samsung's Texas fab in H2 2025. Watch: Potential long-term demand catalyst for Samsung's advanced nodes, contingent on successful yield ramp and Tesla's volume.
SK hynix is reportedly considering TSMC's 3nm process for its HBM4E logic dies, aiming for a performance edge over Samsung's in-house 4nm. This reflects the intensifying competition in advanced HBM, where custom logic dies tailored to client specs are becoming a key battleground.
No immediate supply or price impact; this is a long-term technology roadmap decision for 2026+ products.
Walmart is flooded with RTX 40-series GPUs, with the PNY RTX 4080 Super Verto dropping from $1,501 to $1,019 in 24 hours. This surge in inventory is driven by the high prices and scarcity of the RTX 50-series Blackwell GPUs. The steep discounts make last-gen Ada Lovelace cards a compelling alternative for traders.
Intel has reportedly informed major PC clients of a planned 10% price increase for its consumer CPUs, primarily affecting the Core Ultra family. This move follows a period of rising costs for other PC components like memory and storage. Bullish: The direct price increase will immediately raise BOM costs for PC OEMs and is expected to flow through to end-market pricing.
Tsinghua University researchers achieved a breakthrough in chiral antiferromagnetic materials, enabling deterministic switching for next-gen memory. This R&D milestone targets ultra-high density and low power consumption, potentially impacting future memory markets.
Japanese equipment maker Rix plans to mass-produce advanced cleaning tools for 2.5D/3D packaging by 2026, targeting the AI chip packaging boom. The tools are designed to clean ultra-narrow gaps in advanced packages like CoWoS. Neutral: This is a long-term capacity addition for a niche tool segment, with no immediate impact on component supply or pricing.
Research institute imec has installed ASML's EXE:5200 High NA EUV lithography system, the world's most advanced, at its Leuven facility. This milestone, part of a strategic partnership, aims to accelerate R&D for sub-2nm logic and memory technologies. Neutral: This is a long-term R&D event with no immediate impact on component supply, pricing, or trading decisions.
Kioxia plans to phase out TSOP-packaged MLC NAND products, according to a client notice. TSOP is a legacy package primarily used for MLC NAND in applications like USB drives and memory cards. Bullish: This EOL move reduces supply of legacy MLC NAND, potentially tightening availability and supporting prices for remaining inventory.
Global semiconductor sales reached $830 billion in 2025, a 20% increase, driven by AI demand. DRAM revenue rebounded to over $150 billion, up 50% YoY, while the top 10 companies captured 42% of market share.
Nvidia is repositioning storage as an active extension of memory within AI infrastructure, reshaping data center design and supply chain dynamics. This conceptual shift elevates the strategic importance of NVMe SSDs in AI workflows. Neutral: This is a long-term architectural trend with no immediate, quantifiable impact on component pricing or supply.
Micron is aggressively increasing capital spending to address AI-driven demand, but physical cleanroom construction constraints are limiting the pace of new memory capacity expansion. This signals structural supply limits are being approached in the memory industry. Bullish: Supply growth constraints against strong demand create a supportive environment for memory pricing.
Micron reported Q2 2026 revenue of $23.86 billion, nearly triple Q2 2025, driven by AI and autonomous vehicle demand for 300GB+ DRAM. Bullish outlook due to structural supply constraints and a 20% capacity expansion.
AMD has reportedly secured Samsung's HBM4 supply, following NVIDIA, potentially leveraging the deal to shift some AI chip production away from TSMC. This indicates Samsung Foundry's strategic use of HBM supply to compete for advanced packaging and AI chip manufacturing. Watch: This could alter the foundry supply landscape for high-end AI chips, impacting long-term procurement strategies.
Micron reported record margins near 75% and record earnings, with FY26 capex potentially doubling to $25B and long-term supply deals in development. The aggressive investment signals confidence in sustained memory demand, particularly for AI applications. Watch: Massive capex expansion could increase future supply, but near-term demand signals remain strong, creating mixed price pressure.
