Silicon wafer shipments increase 13.4% in Q3 as AI demand broadens
What happened
According to a press release from SEMI, worldwide silicon wafer shipments rose 13.4% year on year in the third quarter of 2025, to 3,756 million square inches (MSI), and were up 5.1% compared with the second quarter. Shipments were 3,313 MSI in the third quarter of 2025 and 3,573 MSI in the second quarter of 2025. Growth was driven by AI-related demand and a recovery in industrial demand, with robotics, power supplies for AI servers and general-purpose industrial semiconductors all contributing on the industrial side; bonding and advanced packaging applications also continued to support demand for 300 mm polished wafers. Masatsugu Miura, Chairman of SEMI SMG and General Manager of Sales & Marketing at SUMCO, said AI-related demand continued to broaden beyond advanced logic and memory to include power devices and photonics.
