Marvell’s acquisition of Lumentum could challenge Broadcom’s market leadership, says TrendForce

What happened

Market research firm TrendForce notes that, following the announcement that Marvell Technology Inc, a data infrastructure semiconductor solutions provider based in Santa Clara, CA, USA, is acquiring Lumentum Holdings Inc of San Jose, CA, USA (which designs and makes optical and photonic products for optical networks and lasers), if completed (subject to shareholder and regulatory approval), the acquisition would significantly strengthen Marvell's optical technology portfolio and enable the combined company to deliver more comprehensive next-generation optical interconnect solutions; TrendForce says the acquisition could challenge Broadcom's market leadership.
