LG CNS Completes 30MW AI Data Center in Indonesia
What happened
LG CNS announced on Nov. 2 that it had completed construction of a hyperscale AI data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, with a power intake capacity of 30 megawatts (MW), just over a year after winning a 100 billion won contract for the project, and it secured customers for 100% of the facility's capacity before completion. The project was commissioned by KMG, a joint venture between Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management; LG CNS was responsible for building core infrastructure including power, cooling and communications systems. The 11-story data center has a total floor area of 46,281 square meters, is designed to accommodate more than 100,000 servers, and adopts a hybrid cooling architecture combining air and liquid cooling: the first phase uses an air-cooling system, while liquid cooling will be added in subsequent phases. It also has power infrastructure supporting high-density server environments exceeding 300 kilowatts (kW) per rack, plus infrastructure redundancy including backup power systems. Under the "One LG" strategy, LG Electronics supplied HVAC systems and LG Energy Solution provided battery solutions while LG CNS oversaw construction. LG CNS is currently designing the next phases of construction; once the additional projects are completed, the data center's total power intake capacity is expected to expand to 400MW. The company initially announced a long-term expansion plan targeting 220MW, and in its latest completion announcement raised the target capacity to 400MW, including subsequent development phases. LG CNS plans to use its Indonesian operations as a foundation for pursuing new projects in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan.
