What does TI -Q1 mean?

In TI nomenclature, -Q1 usually indicates an automotive-grade part. But a Q1 family name does not mean every OPN is identical. Separate GPN from OPN, then check the exact orderable's Rating, AEC-Q100 and datasheet.

30-second answer

TI uses the -Q1 suffix on TI.com for automotive products. The final qualification verdict must land on the exact OPN's Rating, AEC-Q100 grade, temperature range and datasheet — not just the GPN name.

Q1, EP and HT are not the same

SuffixUsually meansWhat to verify
-Q1Automotive, usually AEC-Q100 (verify on the product page/datasheet)Exact OPN Rating, AEC grade, temperature
-EPEnhanced Product for aerospace/defenseDo not treat as automotive; check Rating
-HTHigh-temperature productTemperature/package; not automatically automotive
No suffixMay be Catalog or Automotive; rating is at part levelCheck the exact OPN on TI.com

GPN vs OPN: why one family can have different ratings

A GPN is the generic product number for a family; an OPN is the orderable with a specific package, temperature, NVM configuration and packaging. TI assigns ratings at part level, so one GPN can contain both Automotive and Catalog OPNs. TDA4VM is a good example: only some Q1 variants are marked AEC-Q100.

Remember: A family name gives direction; the automotive verdict must land on the OPN.

FAQ

Does -Q1 always mean AEC-Q100?

On TI.com it usually indicates automotive grade, but always verify the exact OPN's product page/datasheet; do not rely on the suffix alone.

Why are there multiple OPNs for one part?

OPNs can differ by package, temperature, NVM configuration, power sequencing or packaging; the automotive rating can differ too.

Is Q1 the same as ASIL?

No. Q1/AEC-Q100 is an automotive reliability qualification; ASIL is an ISO 26262 functional-safety level. They are not interchangeable.

Can procurement order by GPN only?

Not recommended. The BOM should carry the full OPN and verify lifecycle, package, temperature and PPAP; the GPN is a selection entry point.
