Innox Advanced Materials Begins OCA Supply for Flagship Smartphones
What happened
According to industry sources reported on Nov. 4, Innox Advanced Materials has for the first time begun mass production and shipments of optical clear adhesive (OCA) films for smartphone OLED displays, recently completing initial mass production of OCA films for a global smartphone manufacturer's flagship model and starting shipments, sharing supply volumes with an existing overseas supplier under a dual-sourcing arrangement. OCA is a transparent adhesive film used between layers of an OLED display (including between the cover window and polarizing film); the high-performance OCA market has been dominated by overseas suppliers such as US-based 3M and Japan's Nitto Denko. The company plans to expand supply to foldable smartphones (requiring elastic recovery and bending durability) and last December disclosed plans to invest 12.4 billion won in OCA production facilities, allocating 1.1 billion won this year and 11.3 billion won next year. The company estimates the global OCA market for mobile OLED displays will grow from approximately 260 billion won this year to 300 billion won in 2028, and aims to secure a 30% market share by 2028, equivalent to annual revenue of 90 billion won based on a simple calculation. The source does not state the cause of any price impact.
