TechInsights Sees Memory Accounting for 62% of Chip Revenue in 2027

What happened

Market research firm TechInsights, in its 2027 Outlook Report released on Oct. 29 local time, forecasts that the global semiconductor market will exceed $2.6 trillion next year, with memory accounting for about 62% of total revenue, and projects that memory revenue would surpass $1.6 trillion next year, more than doubling from $740 billion this year. According to the report, the increase is driven by artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure investment, which is causing supply shortages and sharp price increases for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), server DRAM and NAND flash. TechInsights said it expects NAND to become the next memory bottleneck as AI drives rapid growth in demand for solid-state drive (SSD) storage. The firm also said production capacity for Taiwan's TSMC's advanced packaging technologies, Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate (CoWoS) and System-on-Integrated-Chips (SoIC), would increase by 20% to 25% annually, but that 'even so, demand will remain strong.' These are TechInsights' forecasts, not achieved results.
