GlobalFoundries opens AI-based facilities control centre in Singapore
What happened
Reported on October 28, 2026: GlobalFoundries has opened an Advanced Facilities Control Centre (AFCC) at its Singapore site, developed together with Siemens. In the first phase, the control centres for five fabs on the Singapore campus will be merged into a single, AI-supported command centre. The centre combines data from facilities, equipment and operations with monitoring tools and AI-based functions such as predictive maintenance; the aim is to find and fix problems faster, detect emerging faults earlier and reduce unplanned downtime. Autonomous robots fitted with thermal cameras, gas detection and vibration and acoustic sensors patrol the fab facilities and campus, sending data to the control centre in real time. Singapore is the first site, and the system will later be rolled out across GlobalFoundries' entire manufacturing network; once fully deployed, it will integrate more than one million data points from facilities equipment, enabling performance comparison between sites. GlobalFoundries also expects the centralised model to reduce duplicated infrastructure and energy use. The company has not disclosed the size of the investment or a timeline for the global rollout.
