Rumored Steam Deck 2 APU Appears in Leaked Benchmarks with 50% More CPU Cores

What happened

A new AMD Gainsborough APU engineering sample has apparently been leaked on OpenBenchmarking and has been identified as a potential candidate for the Valve Steam Deck 2. The sample shows a CPU with six cores and twelve threads, a 50% increase over the current Steam Deck APU, and a base clock of 2.4 GHz. It has 24 GB of LPDDR5 RAM (versus 16 GB in the original Steam Deck) running at 9600 MT/s (versus the Steam Deck's 6400 MT/s). The source notes this does not necessarily mean the Steam Deck 2 will have 24 GB of memory, but indicates that AMD, Valve, or some other OEM is testing that configuration. In benchmarks, the APU reaches 3,508 points in Furmark at 1024×768, while the Valve Steam Deck achieved 3,323 in Furmark at 1280×800; the two results are close given the higher resolution in the Steam Deck testing, and if this is on early drivers it is a good sign for GPU performance on the Steam Deck 2. The product association remains a rumor and is not confirmed.
