Taihan’s Order Backlog Tops 4 Trillion Won on High-Voltage Grid Demand
What happened
In a regulatory filing on Oct. 15, Taihan Cable & Solution said it signed a 120 billion won contract with its subsidiary T.E.USA (TAIHAN ELECTRIC USA LTD) to supply materials for an extra-high-voltage power grid project in the United States awarded on a turnkey basis, representing 3.21% of the company's revenue of 3.636 trillion won last year. T.E.USA will oversee the overall project including local engineering and construction, while Taihan will manufacture and supply extra-high-voltage cables and cable accessories; the total project value and customer were not disclosed due to a confidentiality agreement, and the project is scheduled for completion on Dec. 31, 2028. The company secured extra-high-voltage power grid projects in the UK, Singapore and Australia in the first half of this year, won a 100 billion won turnkey project in the US in January, and secured all 500-kilovolt (kV) high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) underground power grid projects plus a contract to supply 320kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables. Operating profit reached 60.8 billion won in the second quarter and 121.3 billion won in the first half, more than doubling from 55.7 billion won a year earlier and reaching more than 94% of last year's full-year operating profit of 128.6 billion won. The order backlog stood at 4.0629 trillion won as of the end of June, surpassing 4 trillion won for the first time in its history. The source attributes the growth to rapidly rising US electricity demand amid increased construction of AI data centers and expanding investment to replace aging power grids and build new transmission infrastructure.
