Varta’s consumer battery business spun off from insolvent parent

What happened

On October 13, 2026, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs approved the spin‑off of Varta’s consumer battery business from the insolvent Varta AG group, allowing Varta Consumer Batteries to operate again as an independent company. The lenders have taken over the business and all 990 jobs will be retained. The company has received fresh capital amounting to several million euros, production and deliveries continue without interruption, and existing contracts and supply agreements remain unchanged, with no job cuts planned. Varta plans significant investments in Dischingen by the end of 2028, mainly in new equipment and more automation, and expects average annual sales growth of three to four percent up to 2029, driven primarily by European markets but also by South America, Asia and Canada.
