Quantum Source Unveils QS-LINK to Connect and Scale Quantum Computers Across Modalities

What happened

Quantum computing company Quantum Source published the first technical details of its proprietary QS-LINK interconnect. QS-LINK uses a single rubidium atom as quantum memory and holds entanglement with a first processor until successfully establishing entanglement with a second one, so processors no longer have to deliver a photon at the same moment, raising the rate at which processors can be linked by orders of magnitude. In conventional two-photon schemes, each photon is delivered about 1% of the time or less, so both arriving together happens roughly once in 10,000 tries; according to analytical modeling and Monte Carlo simulation, reaching the roughly 10,000 entangled pairs per second that fault-tolerant architectures call for would take about 190 million attempts per second with linear optics, versus about 3.2 million with QS-LINK, roughly 60 times fewer and a rate within reach of trapped-ion systems today; these projections assume a photon-atom gate that completes in about 20 nanoseconds at 98.4% efficiency, and a full end-to-end demonstration is the next step. Any processor that can emit a compatible photon, whether trapped-ion, neutral-atom, superconducting or photonic, can be linked over standard optical fiber. The article notes the company's ORIGIN engine was unveiled in September 2025, and in July (no year given), Quantum Source and Israel's Directorate of Defense Research and Development sent entangled photon pairs on demand through more than a kilometer of unstabilized fiber with no measurable loss of fidelity. The company, founded in 2021 and based in Nes-Ziona, Israel, has raised $77 million. This is a technical product announcement; no volume production, supply availability, or commercialization status is stated.
